a couple random facts to pass along

The split-fingered Vulcan salute from Star Trek is derived from an Orthodox Jewish ritual called the Blessing Hands, used to anoint congregations on holy days. Leonard Nimoy, whose grandfather was Orthodox, remembered the hand gesture from his childhood visits to the synagogue with his grandfather and borrowed it for his role as Mr. Spock.

The Caesar Salad was invented by a restaurant owner in Tijuana, Mexico… not Italy.

The octopus is the most intelligent animal in the world that does not have a backbone. Studies have shown they can solve fairly complex problems and are considered to have approximately the same intelligence level as a dog.

things to amuse you and me today.

THIS is a good way to point your energies in an extremely accute way while achieving little or no actual, tangible results.

likewise, there is the ever-distracting and addictive game of SCRAMBLE.

i'm going to this event on 11.6.09

this is kellie mccool's first art show ever. first fridays @ the warehouse in oakland. she'll be selling her amazing hand-screened art. you can always buy it here, but wouldn't it be more fun to know that the little red dot is there because of you?
this makes me laugh, but i secretly worry about how incredibly and unironically ironic this little gal is going to think she is when she's my age. it's cool at age 4 that she's oppressive and inflexible , but i think i know some grown ass people like her and it's not that cool.

tuesdays are useless.

go figure the day that i start my first ever BLOG is the day that i have absolutely nothing to say about anything. well, i guess i could say things, but isn't the point that they're interesting things? maybe i should have picked a day that started with getting beer spilled on my head by an irate bum who then gets tossed off the n judah like a sack of potatoes by a suave black dude who was pissed about all the "disrespect to the ladies".* that would make for good blogging, right? i'm new at this.
